How to Transfer a GstarCAD License to Another Computer

Moving to a new PC or laptop? The correct method is simple: return the license from the old computer first, then activate it on the new computer. This page explains the proper process step by step.

For GstarCAD Standalone License Online Return or Manual Return Safe Before Reinstall / Hardware Change

Step-by-Step License Transfer

  1. Open GstarCAD on the old computer

Start GstarCAD on the computer that is currently using the license.

  2. Open the License Manager

In GstarCAD, go to Help → Register to open the GstarCAD License Manager.

  3. Return the license

Click Return License. If the computer has internet access, use the online return method. If it does not, use the manual return method.

  4. Confirm the return is completed

Make sure the return process finishes successfully before formatting the computer, replacing hardware, or uninstalling the system.

  5. Install GstarCAD on the new computer

Download and install the same GstarCAD version, or the version provided with your license, on the new computer.

  6. Activate the license on the new computer

Open GstarCAD on the new computer, go to Help → Register, and activate the license again using your valid serial number or activation method.

Important: Return the license before changing the system, motherboard, or hard disk. This helps prevent the license from remaining locked to the old machine.
If the old computer is damaged, formatted, or inaccessible: the license may not be returned normally. In that case, contact your GstarCAD distributor or support team and provide your licese key (serial number) and license details for assistance.
